I’m sorry, but this email I got today is just too much, I couldn’t help but laugh while I was reading it. To think that the moron who wrote it would actually think that there would be a bigger moron out there who would fall for it. Don’t let it be you.

This is obviously one of those phishing emails and it’s also obvious that it’s using what they feel to be an authoritative source  to elicit this information from the recipient.  The thing is you can’t help but laugh at the complete idiocy of it all.

Unfortunately I reckon there will be those thinking of the easy money factor who will fall for this, DON”T YOU BE ONE OF THEM. Oh as for the threats contained within this email they are nothing if not idle.

Again, it’s just phishing for personal information so that it can start the next leg of the campaign to rob you blind. This is another of those bullshit emails that you should delete immediately.

It seems that these rip of artists are actually targeting people in their own countries. Peter of Huttriver8, who I know lives in New Zealand, sent me this particular one. They’re obviously hoping that the recipient panics and clicks that link which will take them to as site that looks like real but is only there to get their details. It’s an obvious phishing exercise and you shouldn’t fall for it.

I’ve left the link active so that you can hover over it with your mouse, don’t click it whatever you do, just so you can see the link isn’t taking you to the PayPal site at all.

In case some of you are wondering as to why I bother with this sort of post, it’s really quite simple. The world is a huge place, and while there are many who are not susceptible to these types of scams, there are a whole lot more that are, and a lot of them will actually use Google and other search engines to check the validity of said emails. A  lot of the time they find one of my posts, and if those posts stop them from getting sucked in, then those posts have done their job.

What this email did was create doubt, and once you have that flicker of doubt you can make mistakes, like clicking on a link or something silly. That is of course their intention.

This particular email actually referred to Advantus Media, Inc, and affiliate that I often promote.  The first thing I did was log into my PayPal account and check the history. There was no record of that amount. Someone else may have panicked thinking that it was deleted and not showing up, and they may actually click on the link in the email.

Not me. I Wrote to PayPal direct and forwarded them a copy of the email and then waited patiently for their reply. This arrived in less than 24 hours.
