I hate it when assholes try to appeal to peoples greed or need for money in order to try and scam some money out of them. In my opinion that is really low but it’s even lower when they try to appeal to their Christian sensibility by bringing God into it and even mentioning a passage in the Bible!

Then you add to the equation the fact they try to appeal to a person’s humanity by trying to make them feel sorry for them, ergo the dying from cancer story, now that is really despicable. The problem is the link withing the email takes you to the following url https://email-edg.paypal.com/r/EKDHPWQ/GILQ/IPUS5/8JGL/YHWFO/PP/h which the redirects you to this one http://www.paypal.com.au/au? Normally PayPal uses a secure site which you can tell from the url starting with https://!

Perhaps the email is legitimate but I have never known PayPal to redirect urls before. I don’t know about you but I’m not taking any chances. I logging in the good old way just to make sure I don’t get sucked in to any phishing scam.

OK, did that and as it turns out there is a policy update, but I still don’t trust that email and if I was you I wouldn’t click on that link.

Man, I can’t believe the crap you can get in your inbox these days. This latest one is supposedly from the FBI saying that with their help I’ve been cleared to receive some $850,ooo. 1. What professional writes the whole thing in capitals.
2. The moron is using a gmai account! What head honcho of a major corporation would use a gmail account?
3. Why would anyone end out an email to a complete stranger for the purpose of ripping of any company?

Man, these assholes are starting to get tricky. Usually you get an email that tries and sells you some cock and bull story about how you won some money and all you need to do is to provide some simple information in order to collect the cash. This is called phishing and is all about ‘fishing’ for your personal  information so that they can use it for their own evil purposes.

Well the email that I received today is different in that it doesn’t ask for that information directly. It still tells me that I won the lottery, one that Facebook is running. Using a well known company is a standard procedure that they use to legitimize themselves. As you can see from the copy of the email I posted below it sends you to a website which embellishes on the email trying to suck you in even further. Check out the email.

I’ve just received another email which is obviously a phishing attempt.  Their reason for existence is to garner information from the recipient which is then used against them. Their obvious ‘fishing’ attempt is so they can use this information to rip off their victims at a later date, and if they get enough information off them they may even have an attempt at identity theft.

In their attempt at getting this information they will use the name of a reputable company to legitimize the email, in this case it was Lexus. Heck they’ve even used Microsoft as a partner in gaining my email ID which they pulled out of some fictitious hat or something in order for me to win the prize.

Naturally the prize is pretty big as they want to wet my appetite so that I will give them the information they require to rip me off. Here is a copy of the email.
