Scammers Using Valentine Day To Scam The Unwary

by User ImageBS Artist on February 8, 2008

With Valentines day right around the corner it’s no wonder that everyone is getting a whole lot of spam emails sent from scum trying to catch the unwary. The reason they use Valentines day is because they know that there are many lonely people in the world who would love to get a Valentine eCard or some other form of Valentine greeting from someone out there. Anything is better than nothing right?

Not when the sole intention is to inflict financial or emotional harm on the recipient. Take this one that I received for an example;

Hello,

You just recieved an e-Card. Click below to view.

Hiya, Im lisa..Happy Comming Valentins Day.

Clicking on the link will take you to a web page displaying the following;

scam email

Well, there is certainly no eCard there. It seems we have to click on another link to download something in order to view the card. DON’T!! By doing so you will more than likely be downloading some Malware which will either infect your computer with a virus or provide hacker with a way to access all the private and personal information you have stored on your computer.

I'd love a beer, & that's no bull!

touch wood, but gmail is excellent for catching stuff like this and shoving it into my spam folder. In which case, it never gets read. :D Thanks for the advice though!!
